child sneezing allergy FLAVORxAs many of you are well aware, this looks to be another heavy flu season. As you and your team find yourselves dispensing more Tamiflu oral suspension (OS) and, due to a shortage of the OS, the compounded oral suspension, it is important to offer custom-flavoring with this particular medication. The suspension and compounded versions of Tamiflu can have an unpleasant taste. With such an essential drug, it is important that bad-taste not be a barrier to a child taking the medicine and feeling better faster. To help alleviate this, please recommend flavoring when a customer comes in to drop-off or pick-up a prescription for Tamiflu.

The following flavors will produce the best results for re-flavored Tamiflu suspension/compound:

  • Grape
  • Bubblegum
  • Strawberry
  • Cherry
  • Orange
  • Raspberry

We came away from the event very excited about our new and emerging partnerships with nurse practitioners from around the country. We had been looking for just the right audience of health professionals that were interested in increasing medicinal compliance within the pediatric population and I believe we found them! Our mission at FLAVORx is to help kids take their medicine, whether it be liquids or pills, so they can feel better and get better. Pediatric nurse practitioners seem to share the same mission. They play such an important role in managing children’s health, we could think of no better audience to supply with materials to help make a positive impact on compliance and the medication-time experience.

The good pharmacist bookI recently had the pleasure of reading a great book and I wanted to share it with you. FLAVORx has a close relationship with Elliott M. Sogol, the co-author of The Good Pharmacist. Perhaps you are familiar with this book already, but if not, know that this engaging read has been well-received by the pharmacy community and is a great reference for existing and future pharmacists. This book not only highlights the key qualities and identifies the main challenges, but ultimately encourages pharmacists to ask themselves if they are doing everything they can to be a “good pharmacist.”
